Explore the Night Sky

Explore the night sky with the San Antonio Astronomical Association. We’ll be viewing many constellations and planets and learning about them. We hope to view Venus, Mars and Jupiter. We’ll also look for star clusters, nebula, and much more. Learn the basics of telescope operation. Bring your own telescope or binoculars or enjoy the sights from one of the SAAA’s telescopes. 

Who Is Invited

Open to all ages; participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No pets, please.

Registration & Fees

Registration is NOT required.  Though the program is free, all Natural Area entry fees apply.  Plan to arrive early as the Natural Area can be very busy! To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass .

When & Where to Meet

Park in Parking Lot A and walk the short distance (less than 0.5 mile) to Parking Lot C where the telescopes will be set up.  Friends of Government Canyon volunteers will be on hand to guide you.

What to Wear & Bring

Dress for the weather.  Bring water, a snack if you like, and your own flashlight for the walk. Only flashlights with a red lens cover can be used near the telescopes.  

Requirements

No pets please.  Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian.  To reduce human impact on the Natural Area, please follow the Leave No Trace principles of outdoor ethics.

Cancellations

This program is subject to cancellation.  Should there be inclement weather, please check Natural Area conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055 after 7:30 am, or go to GCSNA’s website, twitter feed or Facebook page.
